Hey Mike, I know you're a busy man. Talented too !
I just wanted to keep fresh the idea of someday seeing and hearing your musical works collected in a box, hence the title of this thread.
    Great Art Must Be Preserved.
    Yours humbly,
    Francis

On 26 May 09 we saw the Japanese reissues of "Fresh Liver" and "Woman" on CD. There were 2 more reissued that day that only now has come to my attention: "Grimms" & "Rockin' Duck" by Grimms.
    Scaffoldmania really is here !

We're in the same boat; I have to base my choices on financial considerations as well. Gotta go wiht the Highlands book, it seems I've waited for it for such a long time; everything else will have to come afterwards!

Can't say too much about that box set, Frankie. I like your Great Art Must Be Preserved phrase!

    Choose the book for now!
And wait for Grimms 1 and 2 until THE BOXSET is issued.

OK, I'll make a promise to you all that the book will be in my hands by the end of the month. I really want to see it. It's just that there seems to be so much Mike~mania abounding these days that I'm swimming in it. Glad we have a Pool!

Yes, Mike, I'm once again bringing up your extraordinary musical past so that it may enhance the future. I once posted a similar list, but it got lost when our Forum did. This is by no means an accurate list, or maybe it is ! These tracks, to the best of my knowledge, haven't been put on CD:

Mike Mac: Kill, Do Nothing All Day, I Juz Want What You Got-Money, A to Z, All The Whales In the Ocean, No Lar Di Dar, God Bless Our Gracious Queen
Oh & of course your singing bin version of Thank U Very Much :)

"A Collection of Songs for the Young Homeless of Merseyside" (1996) contains a song by Mike McCartney called
    Take It Into Your Hearts

Scaffold: All The Way Up, Please Sorry, How D'You Do, Paper Underpants, Ten Years After On Strawberry Jam, Commercial Break, If I Could Start All Over Again, The Wind Is Blowing, Wouldn't It Be Funny If You Didn't Have A Nose, Mr Noselighter
and most of side 2 of the "L The P" LP

"Liverpool-The Number Ones" (2008) has a new song by Scaffold: 3 Shirts On A Line

    Grimms: Libido

And then there's this single that I know nothing about
by The Bashers, which includes members of Grimms & Mike McGear:
The Womble Bashers/Womble Bashers Wock (1976)
The songs are McGough/McGear compositions, produced by Mike McGear

Universal Japan, on 26 May 09 reissued
    "Woman"
    "Fresh Liver"
    "Grimms" &
    "Rockin' Duck"

3 short yet endearing tracks were left off of the "Woman" CD:
benna, black beauty, & young young man (Mike's terrifc a cappella perfomance) A remastering of this amazing album would be appropriate, restoring those 3 tracks

Then there's John Gorman's "Go Man Gorman" LP which begs to be rescued from obscurity with a CD release

Scaffold~mania is here & now. Tho it never went away, I say.
    Great Art Must Be Preserved
    I dream of "Gear Box"
    Yours,obsessively,
    Frankie

At this point, I don't even care if it is remastered or not. I would just like a compilation of everything he has ever done; Scaffold, solo, or otherwise, in one neat, concise, CD package. The material is out there, but very piecemeal. I keep wondering what song have I not heard, which recordings are missing, etc. Very frustrating.

    Agreed, Marla.
I probably wouldn't mind too much if a box set doesn't happen, but I'd like to see those "lost" tracks rescued from obscurity.

Having said that, I will ease up on Our Leader & let it go.

Tho I have let it go, I do have some more thoughts that I will offer, but I won't be pushy about it :)
To the best of my knowlege there has never been a Mike/Scaffold DVD of performances, appearances, & they did have a TV show called "Score With The Scaffold." Such a DVD would make a splendid addition to Gear Box. Or if it were just one CD of uncompiled material it could be a dual disc: music on one side of the disc with the other side a DVD. Ringo once released a dual disc.
That's all. I'll let this thread sink the the bottom of the screen.

Oh I wouldn't sink it, as in delete it. But as you know if a thread hasn't been posted on for some time it just gently drifts to the bottom of the screen. I won't pester Mike about neatly compiling his work into one neat concise package on CD, but I won't let let it be forgotten as well.

Today a Scaffold single arrived. "Mummy Won't Be Home For Christmas" is on the A side. B side is "The Wind Is Blowing" with Gorman credited as composer. I thought this is gonna be another great wacky zany John Gorman tune like WPC Hodges or Ramsbottom. What I heard is possibly the most BEAUTIFUL Scaffold song of all. A Christmas song. A melody so lovely with exquisite 3 part harmony & Mike McGear taking the lead on verses. He also co-produced the recording.

Mike, we know you're busy & happy. And that's what is important : following your bliss. Someday when you feel you have time please think about rescuing these gems from the depths of obscurity
Thank u very much for making this record

Last week my copy of "L the P" by those lively wacker wits The Scaffold arrived (from Scotland...it seems to be the most sought-after Scaffold item on ebay & Amazon)
I'm getting around to listening right now. Side one has songs we know:

    1 2 3
Oh ! To be a child
    Stop blowing those charity bubbles
    I can't make you mine
    Today
Jelly Covered Cloud ... & of course
    Lily the Pink

Side Two is Humour & Poetry. It's a live performance at Abbey Road Studios, 3 excerpts of which can be heard on the excellent CD compilation "The Scaffold At Abbey Road 1966 to 1971"
I LOVE the VERY clever word play & social commentary on this side.
The overall result is involuntary smiling. Happens when I listen to The Scaffs.
I'll close this post with a sleeve note from the LP:

"For the raucous groans and laughter The Scaffold would like to thank the students of London University"

    Yours mine & ours,
    Frankie

PS: Mike, John & Rog...thank u very much for making this record

All The Whales In The Ocean/I Juz Want What You Got-Money

Perhaps it ended up in a singing bin !

Today on ebay I scored another single by The Scaffold:
Busdreams/If I Could Start All Over Again
I've never heard the B side. When I placed the bid I thought I was bidding in US dollars. On closer inspection I discovered it was in British pounds. So, I paid a little more for it than I wanted to, but hey, it's The Scaffold.

2 years ago in this thread I posted a list of tracks which have never made it onto CD. Recently I did some editing & updating of that post. So if you like, scroll up & indulge my obsession.
Will anything come of it? I don't know. But I enjoyed making the list.
    Cheers, my frans:)
  1.
I saw that Budreams record and wanted to bid on it.
but I didnt. glad you won the scaffold bidding frankie

Mike, I have sent an email to Mike Kovacich of Macca Radio telling him of the M&M reissue. He has responded:

"Thanks for the heads up. I would love to feature this. I love the McGear album
quite a lot of gems on that, Leave It and the whole 2nd side"

I want to see this great album get a little free publicity. You might be contacted by him soon. I know you're busy with jet setting & tweeting, and now this great reissue !
